San Diego, California
The framework plan follows the tradition of American campus planning by defining the central yard with two-story educational buildings. The tradition is enhanced by placing three “jewel” buildings within the one-half acre yard. At the main entrance, a two-story student union/library building is rotated to acknowledge public streets and serves as the campus landmark.
The architectural theme focuses on sustainable design, abstraction rooted in the culture of the Americas and the spiritually of light and shadows. This can be seen in the free-standing façade of the student union/library where light passes through the negative spaces (voids) casting the shapes of beams, columns and pyramids onto the plaza.
